Logan & airports
How a prearranged Logan pickup actually works
Most people book an airport car and then wonder, somewhere over Pennsylvania, whether it is really going to be there. Here is the part nobody explains.
A prearranged airport pickup is a different operation from hailing a car. The distinction matters at Logan more than at most airports, because the chauffeur is not circling the terminal hoping to be nearby when you land. He is already there, already assigned to you by name, and already waiting somewhere he is allowed to wait.
The car arrives before you do
The chauffeur is dispatched against your flight, not against your booked time. He is in position while you are still taxiing. That is the entire reason a car service costs more than an app: you are paying for a vehicle to sit idle on your behalf, rather than paying a premium at the exact moment everyone else on your flight wants the same thing.
Staging, and why the car is not at the kerb yet
Airports do not let commercial vehicles idle at arrivals. Drivers wait in a designated holding area and are called forward when the passenger is ready. This is why a good dispatcher asks you to text or call once you have your bags — that message is what releases the car. The gap between your message and the car appearing is usually a few minutes, and it is the part travellers most often mistake for the driver being late.
Curbside or inside
Two ways to do it. Curbside: you walk out to a named door and the car meets you there, which is fastest if you know the airport and are travelling light. Meet-and-greet: a greeter is inside the terminal with a name board, takes the bags, and walks you out. The second costs more and is worth it in specific cases, which is its own subject.
Wait time, and what is actually included
The industry standard is a grace window after landing before wait time starts billing, and it is normally longer for international arrivals than domestic — because customs is unpredictable in a way that a domestic baggage claim is not. What matters is that the clock runs from wheels-down, not from your booked time. A flight that lands two hours late does not cost you two hours of waiting, because the dispatcher moved the car with the aircraft.
The three things that actually go wrong
First, the passenger books for the scheduled landing time and nobody attaches the flight number, so the car cannot follow the aircraft. Second, the phone number on the reservation is the assistant's rather than the traveller's, so when dispatch needs to reach the person standing in the terminal, it calls an office. Third, the traveller comes out of a different door than the one in the confirmation. All three are five seconds of attention at booking.
Questions
Commonly asked
What if my flight is delayed by several hours?+
The car moves with the aircraft. Our dispatchers track the flight and reassign the pickup time without anyone needing to call us. You are not charged for the delay itself.
Where exactly will the car be?+
Your confirmation names the door and the vehicle, and the chauffeur texts you when he is called forward. If you would rather be met inside, book the meet-and-greet option instead.
Can I book a Logan pickup for someone else?+
Yes, and it is most of what we do. The reservation carries the traveller's name and mobile so the chauffeur and dispatch reach the passenger directly, while confirmations still come to you.
